INTRODUCING THE CUBE 2.0

IT'S ON! The City of Nelson has leased the Kootenay Climbing Association a parcel of land to build the Cube 2.0, the next generation of indoor climbing in the Kootenay region of British Columbia.

THE VISION

  • 500% more climbing surface area than the existing Cube
  • First facility in the BC interior that will be capable of hosting Olympic-calibre climbing competitions
  • 15-meter tall climbing walls for lead-climbing, speed-climbing, and top-roping
  • Dedicated bouldering area
  • Kids Zone play area
  • Locker rooms with showers
  • Sustainably built using mass-timber, which is a leading-edge, low-carbon construction alternative utilizing locally engineered wood products
  • A community hub in a burgeoning new neighborhood adjacent to Selkirk College’s 10th Street Campus

BECOME A PATRON

The Cube is proud to be one of North America’s only non-profit climbing gyms, reinvesting our earnings back into the community through subsidized pricing and programs. Now we’re calling on the community to give back.

To get the big grant money we need to build the Cube 2.0, we need to show strong community backing for this project. Learn how you can help by becoming a patron, and the special benefits that come with patronage:

MORE THAN A CLIMBING GYM

We love climbing. But the Cube 2.0 is so much more!

  • Affordable mountain-sports recreation for all ages and ability levels
  • After-school childcare programs
  • Climate refuge with an air filtration and HVAC system to ensure safe indoor air on even the smokiest days
  • Meeting point for folks accessing the adjacent rail trail, outdoor climbing crags, and mountain-biking and running trails (and a Plan B in case it rains)
  • Viable employer providing up to 30 jobs—all paying a living wage
  • Olympic-caliber climbing and training opportunities to attract and retain people to live and work in our community
  • Ability to host high-caliber Regional, National, and International competitions to increase tourism dollars
